Barton Goodwin

Barton has over 30 years of success working at premier companies and start-ups in the information technology sector, with a focus on growth initiatives, mergers and acquisitions and management consulting. As a Co-Founder of Cypress Growth Capital, he is involved in all facets of the investment process and actively supports portfolio companies.

Prior to Cypress, Barton co-founded Cypress Point Partners, an advisory firm focused on providing funding and driving revenue growth for emerging technology companies. His experience also includes serving as an executive at nGenera (now Moxie Software), a venture backed software and services company. Barton spent 16 years at Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC), where he served as a Managing Partner in the U.S. consulting practice. Barton began his career in information technology at Accenture. He is a graduate of Rice University.


Ed Mello

Ed has thirty years of leadership and executive experience in successful start-ups, major corporations and venture investing. He co-founded Cypress Growth Capital in 2010 and oversees all of the firm’s investment activities and assists portfolio companies primarily with growth initiatives.

Ed served as Chief Operating Officer of CSC Consulting, a $700M division of Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC). He also was an early employee and senior executive of Viant, a pioneering Internet services company that had a successful IPO. Ed was also President of nGenera (now Moxie Software), a venture-backed software and services company. Ed began his business career at EDS after serving as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame.


Vik Thapar

Vik has 17 years of experience spanning venture capital, private equity and information technology consulting. Vik’s responsibilities span all aspects of the investment lifecycle including identifying promising potential companies, conducting due diligence and providing ongoing support to portfolio companies especially with sales and business development initiatives.

Prior to joining the Cypress team in 2012, Vik served as a venture capitalist for a $200M investment fund sponsored by the State of Texas. In that role, Vik was responsible for identifying, qualifying and mentoring prospective portfolio companies. Vik also worked with a private equity firm, Lone Star New Markets. He spent the first decade of his career working in the information technology field as a consultant to Fortune 500 companies. Vik is also very active in the Texas entrepreneur community, currently serving on the Board of Directors of TeXchange, TiE Dallas, the Southwest Venture Forum and the University of Texas – Dallas Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. He holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University and an undergraduate degree from University of Texas at Dallas.


Pat McCaffrey

Pat brings more than 30 years of operating experience in leading and scaling software and tech-enabled services companies. He has held executive leadership positions in venture capital and private equity owned businesses as well as large, publicly held corporations. His broad understanding of the industry further bolsters Cypress’ capabilities across all facets of investing activity, from investment candidate identification and assessment to portfolio company support. Pat is also a member of the firm’s Investment Committee.

Prior to joining Cypress, Pat was the Chief Operating Officer of Omnitracs, a Vista Equity Partners portfolio company providing SaaS-based fleet management and track-and-trace logistics solutions to the North American trucking industry. His executive-level responsibilities in software and information technology consulting also include successful tenures at TeleTech, BT Global Services, Access Mediquip, Optum, Viant and Computer Sciences Corporation. Pat began his career in technology services at EDS. He holds a business degree from Miami University (Ohio).


Shale Gulbas

Shale brings a wide range of financial, analytical and operating experience to the Cypress team. He began his career as an investment banker at JP Morgan, before entering into private equity with CIC Partners, a Dallas-based, middle-market private equity firm that invests in growth-oriented companies. Shale then joined one of CIC Partners’ portfolio companies, BroadJump, as Vice President Finance and Sales Operations, a position which provided Shale valuable experience in a high growth software start-up. He holds both BBA and MBA degrees from the University of Texas at Austin.

As a member of the Cypress investment team, Shale is responsible for identifying promising new prospective companies, conducting due diligence, and providing ongoing analytical, financial and management support to portfolio companies. He is also a member of the firm’s Investment Committee.

Ryan Wallace

Ryan is an Associate with Cypress Growth Capital responsible for sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities. Ryan brings experience in the areas of business development, digital marketing, and operations in the startups and venture capital space.

Prior to joining Cypress, Ryan was a summer analyst and investment scout at Anthos Capital, where he focused on evaluating investment opportunities in the software and fintech space. Additionally, Ryan was a venture fellow with Cofounders Capital and worked on product strategy and growth with 3x3 Insights, a venture-backed data analytics startup. Ryan also incubated a software startup as a full-time university student. Ryan is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.


Arthur Fox

Senior Advisor

Arthur is a nationally recognized authority on royalty financing. He brings an impressive track record in venture investing, entrepreneurial business growth and technology development. He advises our firm on all aspects of royalty financing. Arthur co-founded Royalty Capital Fund I in 1992 and Royalty Capital Fund II in 1995, the first successful venture capital funds in the United States to employ a unique, royalty financing investment methodology that he conceived. A successful entrepreneur, Arthur was a principal and co-founder of three technology companies: Octek Inc., Lexidata Corp., and Medicel Inc. Octek’s and Lexidata’s investors received a substantial return on their investment when Octek was acquired by a Fortune 500 company and Lexidata conducted a successful IPO. He has been a mentor and close business advisor to numerous new and emerging companies. Arthur holds an MSEE degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a BSEE degree from the University of Maryland.
